Seminar focuses on consumer protection against counterfeit

Dubai Chamber event dispels queries on consumer rights

 

Dubai, UAE: Under its mission of protecting the interests of the business community, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized a seminar on Consumer Protection against Counterfeit on Thursday. The seminar aimed at raising awareness about commercial fraud and counterfeit products and their detection by all stakeholders including Government employees, traders and consumers.


Organized by the Legal Services Department of Dubai Chamber, delegates at the seminar included members of business groups and councils, lawyers and legal consultants, trade commissions, various Government and semi-Government departments and consumers at large.

Said Jehad A. Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, “The consumer protection issue is one of the most important issues which the Chamber is keen on highlighting through its commitment to promote the concept of corporate responsibility towards society and the importance of effective participation of companies in finding suitable solutions to the various related problems experienced by the consumers.

Dr Hashim Saeed Al Nuaimi of the UAE Ministry of Economy discussed the Role of the Ministry of Economy in Consumer Protection while Mr Mahmoud Al Mashhadani, Legal Consultant, Galadari & Associates, gave his presentation on ‘How to Protect Consumers from Counterfeiting’. Mr Isam Badwailan, Brand Protection Manager, MENA region for Unilever, highlighted his company’s best practices on ‘Staying Ahead of Counterfeiters as Gillian Foster, manager, Dubai Chamber’s Center for Responsible Business, talked about ‘Treating Customers Fairly – the Foundation of Responsible Business’.

The seminar ended with a question and answer session where the audience put forth all their relevant queries encompassing consumer protection and the availability of ground rules covering consumer transactions and counterfeiting.
