According to AFP, Iraq is currently building a security wall around Baghdad.
Quoting Brigadier General Saad Maan, AFP states that Iraq has already begun constructing a three-meter-high (10 foot) wall and trench around Baghdad in an effort to deter the penetration of militants and car bombs in the city.
Since Daesh militants control areas to the north and west of the capital city, construction of the walls in these areas have top priority in the first phase of the two phase construction project.
The construction of the first phase is expected to take six months, after which 50 percent of the checkpoints scattered throughout the capital city will be removed, providing better security and fewer traffic jams, AFP reports.
