Secure Computing Corporation, a leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced the launch of Webwasher 6.0, a new and enhanced version of its award-winning Web Security Gateway that protects enterprises from inbound and outbound security threats. ,

Webwasher 6.0 marks the initial integration of CipherTrust’s TrustedSource into the Secure Computing suite of products within 75 days of completing the merger with CipherTrust. In addition, Webwasher 6.0 adds a sophisticated anti-malware engine to proactively protect enterprises from targeted attacks.

Webwasher 6.0 is a web security gateway product now available in three newly released appliances that guards enterprises from a deluge of threats delivered via web traffic, including malware, trojans and phishing attacks, and also ensures that outbound traffic meets corporate compliance requirements. This newest version includes more than a dozen enhancements that strengthen its functionality and improve usability.

Webwasher 6.0 incorporates information gathered by TrustedSource in real time to deliver a high degree of protection. TrustedSource is a global threat reputation system that generates a reputation for every web address in the world, based on the behavior of those addresses as email senders and whether those addresses appear in spam and phishing emails.

Specifically, TrustedSource has been incorporated into the Webwasher URL filter module which acts as the first line of defense by blocking employees browsing malicious or unauthorized web sites, improving employee productivity, optimizing bandwidth and reducing liability while improving security. In addition, Webwasher’s URL filtering technology uses TrustedSource real time data to dynamically block browsing web sites that are a part of phishing attacks.
TrustedSource technology was also built into the Connection Control module of the Webwasher Anti-Spam module, proactively blocking connection requests from known spammers in real time before the e-mail even enters the network.

Also new in version 6.0 is Webwasher Anti-Malware, which combines a signature-based anti-malware engine for known malware with the ruggedness of Secure Computing’s ProActive Security filters to detect blended or yet unknown malware. Malicious attacks are no longer internet wide, but part of sophisticated targeted attacks on enterprises with monetary gain as the goal. Traditional reactive anti-virus signatures are inadequate for protecting against such refined and targeted attacks.

Webwasher provides the full range of content protection features in an easy to deploy solution with world-class Web-Filtering, Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and SSL scanning providing inbound and outbound content control. In an independent, comparative test of anti-malware vendors conducted by AV-Test.org in October, 2006, Webwasher ranked first in overall detection of malware.

In addition to the URL filter and Anti-malware features already noted, Version 6.0 also includes - Webwasher SSL Scanner that temporarily unlocks encrypted traffic, enabling HTTPS content control, anti-malware scanning capability, and company policy enforcement; Webwasher Anti-Virus, a combination of up to three third party signature-based anti-virus engines allowing the deployment of multiple signature based third party anti-virus solutions at the same time without the usual hits in performance and latency; and Webwasher Instant Message, a filter that provides selective blocking, logging and reporting of IM and P2P protocols.

“Webwasher 6.0 now combines all the technology required to combat viruses, spyware and other unwanted content into a single affordable, effective and intuitive solution. Webwasher 6.0 and the three new appliances set the gold standard for network security,” said Ray Kafity, Regional Sales Director of Secure Computing, Middle East and Africa.

Webwasher 6.0 will be available as software for Windows, Linux and Solaris, as well as three new appliances which will be available to meet the deployment requirements of organisations of all sizes. The new appliances include Webwasher WW500, Webwasher WW1100 and Webwasher WW1900. Webwasher WW500 is ideal for full suite implementations up to 4,000 users, while Webwasher WW1100 is the direct replacement for the current Webwasher 1000 and provides better performance. This is ideal for full suite implementations up to 8,000 users. The Webwasher WW1900 reduces the number of boxes customers need to purchase and maintain and is ideal for full suite implementations up to 16,000 users.
