Renowned sculptress Shahin Atigheh is wowing shoppers with her unusual sculptures, now on display at BurJuman, as part of Art & Fashion 2006.

Shahin is showcasing more than 30 of her sculptures made out of a variety of materials including bronze, cement and scrap metal. This collection also includes miniature versions of some of her most famous pieces, the 3 Dinos, ‘family shopping’ and ‘husband and wife’.

“My father was an art and antique dealer so I grew up surrounded by beautiful things, making me extra sensitive to the beauty that is all around us.  This is primarily why I’ve been inspired to share this beauty around the world for more than 30 years through my sculptures,” said Shahin, when asked why she chose to become an artist.

“Love and peace are themes that run through all my sculptures because these are the values that I want to promote through my art. ‘Public’ works of art are, therefore, ideal to spread this important message to a wider audience and I am grateful to BurJuman for giving me the opportunity to do so with its discerning clientele here in the Middle East, an area close to my heart, as I was born in Iran,” she added.

Shahin fell in love with the wonderful world of sculpture whilst in U.S in California State University, Northridge, and since then this has been her primary form of artistic expression. While at Cal State Northridge, she developed a unique, lyrical abstracted human form in sculpture. Some of her work is now on display at public environments, i.e. “Devotion” at Pemberton, NJ., Burlington College and Bust of Augustus Hawkins Park in California Los Angeles.

“Shahin’s ability to transform scrap metal and cement into beautiful works of art is astounding and truly establishes her as a force to be reckoned with on the global modern art scene. BurJuman is delighted to be hosting her during Art and Fashion and supporting her in her quest to spread love and peace through sculpture,” added Sabina Khandwani, head of PR and marketing, BurJuman.

Shahin’s sculptures retail for anything from US$2000 to US$10,000.
