The Arab summit in Cairo sent a "strong message to Israel," the Saudi press reported Monday, and urged the United States to save the Middle East peace process.
"The summit did not meet the expectations of the Arab people ... but it came through with the minimum requirement which embarrasses no one," Al-Riyadh said.
The daily termed the meeting which ended Sunday a "success for having avoided confrontations" and said it may lead to reconciliation and even coordination between the Arab states over the Israel-Palestinian peace process.
Al-Massaiya newspaper said it was "unfair to say the summit failed and disappointed the Arab masses."
On the contrary, wrote Al-Watan, the summit "sent a strong message to Israel by threatening to break off relations" if Israel "does not abide by the peace process and the United States does not act to put the peace process back on the rails and point out who is responsible for the blockage."
Al-Nadwa newspaper urged Washington to play its role of sponsor to the process "neutrally and honestly ... in order to save the process from the collapse to which Israel has led it."
The English-language Riyadh Daily said the Palestinians would never be alone while the Saudi Gazette accused Israel of exploiting the peace process to prolong the occupation of Arab land.
But it warned that the new Intifada or uprising of the Palestinian territories would force Israeli leaders to forget Zionist dreams -- RIYADH(AFP)
