The Vanguards of the Palestinian Liberation Forces (Sai’qa Forces), a pro-Damascus Palestinian organization, joined Tuesday the Nationalist and Islamic Groups’ Coalition in the West Bank.

“The current political conditions in the Palestinian territories requires us all, whether powers, factions, or organizations, to unite in order to confront the present difficulties and to face the Israeli arrogance and aggression exercised daily against our defenseless people in the most ugly military form of oppression”, Khairy Hannoun, the secretary of the Sai’qa Organization in the Palestinian territories told Albawaba.com

The Nationalist and Islamic Powers’ coalition consists of 12 Palestinian factions including Fateh, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular and Democratic fronts, among other smaller factions.

They assume the leading role in steering the Palestinian uprising. “We see the role of the nationalist and Islamic groups as defending our people who are our guarantee for the continuation and escalation of the uprising. Feeling that, it is necessary to unite our efforts at all levels, we decided to join these groups despite the differences in our points of view. The present circumstances urge us to put our differences aside, particularly after the uprising has buried the Oslo agreements and focused our attention on our legitimate right of return, self determination, and the establishment of our independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” Hannoun added.

The Vanguards of the Palestinian Liberation Forces is a Damascus-based military organization supported the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party (Syria) and headed by Issam Al-Qadi. The Sai’qa is not represented in the PLO institutions due to its differences with the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on the peace process.
