More than 40 karters gathered this Friday 26th of May at the Kartdrome of the Dubai Autodrome to compete in the title of the fifth round of the UAE National Karting Championship 2006 which is one of the most dynamic forms of motor sport in the UAE.
In scorching temperatures that exceed 40ºC, the fifth round saw four categories battle their way towards the checkered flag. But the big amazement and admiration goes to the Cadets who presented a fabulous race of 12 laps instead 10, and despite their very young age, were able to resist all challenges that the Kartdrome CIK approved track threw in front of them.
The previously unbeaten Steven Mclintock, who recorded four victories in the previous four races of the Rotax Max Heavy Weight, was disqualified from the race due to the fact that he is below the required weight of his relevant category. This fact can be one of the factors that led Stuart Duthie to take first position in the fifth round with Paul Velasco in the second position. And last but not least, it was Michael Bale’s lucky day to gain one position from fourth to third and make his first steps to the podium during the 2006 UAE National Karting Championship.
Bernard Nawfal, from the Biland category, was unshaken from the beginning of the first heat session till the final race. Bernard showed a true deserve for the first position, followed by Raed Hassan in the second position. Third position was taken by Salah Talaat but it was Joseph Hindy who clicked the best time of the day in his category, 1:01.704, but was unfortunate to withdraw from the Final race following his first lap after suffering a mechanical failure, thus relinquishing the platform without scoring.
The toughest and the most closely fought race of all categories was the Rotax Max Light, as all drivers with no exception were so close to each other that a single mistake could cost the driver the race. Paul Cummings/Yousef was struggling against Noah Ali Raze and Ronan Mcelroy for splits of a second, but his steadiness and focus led him to victory leaving Noah in the second place and Ronan in the third.
In the Cadets Championship, it was Edward Jones who extended his overall lead with yet another victory, followed by Millie Coleman Straw in the second place for this race. Tiarnan Okelly made it two times to the podium before and added yet another cup to his collection as he finished third during this round.
The 2006 UAE National Karting Championship will stop during summer and will commence mid September. All the fans that were unable to make it to any of the meetings still have the chance to see the fastest karters battle it at the Kartdrome of the Dubai Autodrome.
