Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdel Aziz has said that the kingdom is not accusing any party of involvement in the 1996 Khobar towers explosion, pending the conclusion of investigations, reported the Saudi news agency (SPA).

The minister told reporters at a press conference in Mecca on Sunday that his country “is not concerned with what the others say and we can not say till now that certain party was behind the incident and investigations are essential to make all facts clear.”

Prince Nayef was responding to Iranian denial of reports connecting Tehran to the anti-US bombing which killed 19 members of the UN force stationed in the kingdom.

According to a report by CBS channel on Friday, US investigators probing the 1996 bombing of a US military housing complex in Saudi Arabia are preparing to formally indict at least one senior official from Iran.

Nearly 100 FBI agents involved in the investigation got a break in the case about 11 months ago and are now awaiting only a few more pieces of evidence from Saudi Arabia before recommending an indictment, the report said, citing informed sources.

Several of the suspects are in Iran, including one identified as Ahmad Sherifi, a senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, according to CBS News.

The White House and the Pentagon have already been briefed on the case and when the final elements of the investigation are in place, Attorney General John Ashcroft is expected to present the findings to President George W. Bush, the report said –Albawaba.com
