Report: Obama peace plan based on two-state solution; to be finalized within two years

American President Barack Obama has presented to two senior Egyptian officials and the Israeli premier his peace plan to solve the Israeli - Palestinian dispute, the London-based A-Sharq al-Awsat reported on Tuesday. According to the report, the American plan for a two-state solution will be finalized within two years.

 

A source is being quoted by the Arabic newspaper as saying the U.S. leader presented the plan to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the latter's recent visit to the American capital. According to the daily, Netanyahu should respond to the plan within six weeks from Obama's address in Cairo on June 4.

A-Sharq al-Awsat conveyed that the Egyptian officials - intelligence chief Omar Suleiman and Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit - got the impression that Obama was "serious" in his bid to implement the plan. However, Arab sources told the paper that Arabs see the internal Palestinian rift as main obstacle in promoting the plan.    

 

In this relation the newspaper reported that Egypt invited Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal for talks in Cairo to discuss the latest development concering the Palestinian arena.
