Egyptian authorities are threatening to surround and blockade a Muslim Brotherhood protest camp in Cairo, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Security forces have signaled growing frustration with the large sit-in camps in recent days, demanding that protestors leave and offering them "safe exit."
Citing state television, the Times reported that security forces were threatening to blockade the main protest camp in Cairo's Nasr City neighborhood.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that Egypt's government should allow Morsi's supporters to demonstrate in peace, but at the same time he called on protestors to not hinder progress in Egypt, according to the newspaper's report. Kerry has come under fire for his recent comments that Egypt's military was "restoring democracy," and the diplomat is thought to be backpedaling.
