Middle Eastern Arab countries moved toward launching a major regional transport network at a ministerial session in Beirut calling for more coordination to face the challenges of globalization, said the Daily Star.
Ministers from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the Palestinian Authority signed on Thursday an accord that provides for open-ended works by each country to develop an integrated network of roads, railways, seaports, and airports across the 13 member states of UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the paper said.
Seven other countries’ ministers attending the opening of a two-day biennial ministerial session of the Beirut-based ESCWA signed the accord later Thursday.
According to the daily, the ESCWA is made up of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain, the UAE, and the Palestinian Authority – Albawaba.com
