A leader must have a heightened level of awareness about a wide spectrum of topics, as well as the depth and maturity to effectively deal with issues at hand. This is more relevant in the layered social fabric of the Arab world, with varying cultural and political sensitivities making the dynamics of maneuvering leadership roles even more challenging, according to Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita, CEO of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).

Eng. bin Ghalita’s comments came during an Executive Education session titled “Leadership Challenges in the Arab World” held at the Dubai School of Government (DSG) for management officials from the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) under the Leadership Development Program - Al Serdal.

Designed by DTCM in collaboration with DSG, a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, Al Serdal is a series of customized workshops on leadership competencies, management acumen, personal skills and integrated local and global knowledge forums.

Eng. bin Ghalita described a number of examples of effective leadership, and highlighted the importance of appropriate communication channels between managers and their subordinates.

Khaled El Gohary Director of Executive Education, of DSG, said: “The Executive Education program extended by DTCM to its employees aims to prepare middle management executives for fast-track growth. DSG has been able to support this professional initiative by designing a credible module, and ensuring its delivery through industry experts. We hope these interactive sessions with such exemplary role models from across the region inspire the candidates as much as they educate them. We are grateful to Eng. bin Ghalita for addressing this gathering and enriching our future business leaders.”

Established in 2005 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in cooperation with the Harvard Kennedy School, DSG aims to promote good governance through enhancing the region’s capacity for effective public policy.
