Doha (QATAR): A supporter of the tournament since the first ball was struck some eleven years ago, Qatargas is well placed to evaluate the success of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Presented by Dolphin Energy, which will celebrate its 12th staging at Doha Golf Club later this month.

“Qatargas has been sponsoring this event since it first began in 1998,” said Qatargas Public Relations Manager Abdulla Hijji. “We are pleased to be able to support a world class sporting event in Qatar.

“As a member of the corporate community it is important for Qatargas that we support a broad range of activities that highlight the country and what it has to offer.

“The Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Presented by Dolphin Energy puts Qatar on the world sporting map and it is something we are pleased to be involved in.”

Although the tournament has made massive strides since its debut on the PGA European and Asian Tours back in the late 1990s, the team behind today’s US$2.5 million event – now solely sanctioned by the PGA European Tour – appreciates the value of the ongoing support of the original partners.

“The differences between that first event in 1998 and the one we will stage in January 2009 are huge but the commitment we receive from the local corporate community remains as loyal as ever,” said Qatar Golf Association President Hassan Al Nuami.

Like many of the corporates who have aligned themselves with a showcase occasion that attracts the biggest names in world golf, Qatargas uses its involvement with the tournament to engage the company’s stakeholders as well as provide an opportunity for its employees to access a premier sporting event on their own doorstep.

Held in association with the Qatar Golf Association (QGA), Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and title sponsors Commercialbank, the 2009 Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Presented by Dolphin Energy continues to feature the world’s best players with US stars Boo Weekley and Brandt Snedeker both signing up to make their Middle East debuts in Doha.

“We like to consider ourselves leaders in our field so getting stars to choose Qatar when they come to the Gulf to the first time is one of our main aims,” said Commercialbank Group CEO Andrew Stevens. “Like us, Qatargas is also a golfing pioneer and we thank and applaud them once again for their unwavering support.”

Teeing off on January 21 with the customary Rolex Pro-Am, the tournament will get underway in earnest with the opening round on January 22 before the winner collects his trophy on the eighteenth green at the close of play on January 25.

Entrance to the public is completely free of charge with more details available at the official website www.qatar-masters.com.
