Member of the PLO executive committee, Zakaria Agha, said that the results of the Arab summit should provide clear political support to the Palestinians and back their steadfastness in the face of Israeli arrogance.

He told Albawaba of his hope that ”Arabs will undertake a serious review of the stand of the American sponsor of the peace process, and its bias towards the Israeli side so it can undertake the required role and bear responsibilities towards developments in Palestine. We (also) look for action to put war criminals on trial.”

Agha said a threat by the Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak to suspend the peace process means that he wants to tell Arab leaders that their decisions mean nothing to him. Therefore, “I urge Arab leaders to rise to the challenge, and respond in a new way to tackle the risks involved in the current political situation.”

The PLO official sounded pessimistic about the peace process saying it is dead, ”it is useless, and there should be a new approach to enact the rights of the Palestinian people after Israel stalled and cancelled the peace process.”

He said he hoped for good relations between the Palestine Authority and Syria because “there is no room for any disputes in the current political situation.”
