ALBAWABA - According to local Iranian reports, a presidential helicopter had an emergency landing in East Azerbaijan Province and is believed to have been carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
Initial reports say that the helicopter was carrying President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in addition to several other Iranian officials. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to state media, the bad weather conditions have made the rescue efforts even harder as emergency teams fight time to reach the area where the incident took place.
The president’s convoy included three helicopters. Two of the choppers carrying several ministers and officials have landed safely, TASNIM News Agency reported.
According to reports, the accident occurred while the president was returning from the Khoda Afarin region in Iran's northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, where he had inaugurated a dam near the Republic of Azerbaijan's border.
Some members of the president's entourage have allegedly contacted the command center, raising hopes that there were no casualties in the accident.
