Photovoltaic solutions to headline DuPont showcase at World Future Energy Summit 2009

Science company to highlight its commitment to renewable energy

DuPont, one of the world’s leading market-based science products and services companies, will showcase a wide range of highly specialized solutions, products and services for the unique challenges of the renewable energy industry at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) and exhibition taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC), UAE. At the event – which is the world’s largest conference and exhibition on renewable and future energy solutions, innovations, policy and vision - DuPont will highlight its newest offerings designed to benefit photovoltaic (PV) solar and wind turbine energy systems.

“The need for truly sustainable options for 21st century life remains one of the most critical challenges facing the global community,” said Stephan Padlewski, Market and Program Leader, DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions. “That is why DuPont continues to deliver some of the world’s most innovative materials for renewable energy. WFES offers an ideal opportunity to share how DuPont is putting science to work for a more sustainable future, developing materials for wind turbine systems, fuel cell technologies, and photovoltaic solutions, where the market has been growing rapidly.”

DuPont estimates the photovoltaic market has grown by more than 50 percent recently.  Through new innovation and investments in materials, technology development and manufacturing, DuPont is accelerating its ability to deliver innovations that will improve the lifetime and efficiency of photovoltaic modules, and to deliver enough production capability to help keep pace with the fast rising global demand.

Products from DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions are key to the manufacture of both crystalline silicon and thin film solar cells and modules.  They include films, resins, encapsulation sheets, flexible substrates and conductive pastes, as well as high performance seals for solar cell manufacturing equipment.  Key products highlighted at WFES will include:

·        DuPont™ Teflon® fluoropolymer film for front sheets and flexible panels, which offer mechanical strength and durability against cracking and abrasion, flexibility and nearly 100 percent transparency.

·        DuPont™ Elvax® EVA resins for the encapsulant sheet, cushions individual cells from impact and enables the transmission of sunlight to the cells.

·        DuPont PV Encapsulant Sheets: Ranging from soft to structural, clear DuPont™ PV5200 and PV5300 Series encapsulant sheets offer proven safety and laminating performance, and deliver long term protection for the most sensitive portions of PV modules.

·        DuPont™ Solamet® thick film metallization pastes, which increase the efficiency and yield of solar cells.

·        Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts from DuPont Performance Elastomers, which provide excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals and high temperatures to help reduce the risk of unplanned maintenance.

·        DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride films, which deliver long lasting UV and weather-resistant back sheets. The newest Tedlar® PV2100 Series films provide increased dimensional stability, and higher reflectance, which improves output and efficiency.

DuPont also has solutions for wind turbine systems, designed to increase component reliability, reduce weight, and lower installation and maintenance costs.  These include coating and electrical insulation solutions for wind energy, such as DuPont™ Kevlar® Mechanical Paper, Voltatex® and Voltron® core sheet varnishes, wire enamels and impregnating resins; DuPont™ Teflon® fluoropolymer films and sheets; DuPont™ Zytel® high performance polyamide; and DuPont™ Nafion® perfluorinated membranes used in Vanadium Redox Batteries (VRBs) which are typically coupled to wind turbines as energy storage mechanisms.

In addition, DuPont has Clean Technologies which provide an integrated approach to help O&G refineries meet strict environmental requirements to reduce sulphur emissions. DuPont Clean Technologies also offer Glyclean™ PV for texturing etch formulation in photovoltaic cell manufacturing process.

For biofuels, DuPont offers developments in its biobutanol and cellulosic ethanol programs. The advanced biofuels offer economical alternative sources of energy and have the potential to revolutionise the global biofuels industry.

DuPont will exhibit these energy solutions at Stand 8_8030 during WFES 2009 from January 19 to 21, 2009 at ADNEC. The World Future Energy Summit 2009 will be the largest gathering of influential figures within the renewable energy sector. It is expected to host 15,000 attendees in more than 20,000 square metres of exhibition space, which will include new feature areas to encourage networking and interaction. It will also include several social events such as the inaugural Zayed Future Energy Prize ceremony and gala dinner.
