Former World Snooker Champion and current World Number 6 Peter Ebdon is amongst the favourites to win the first Corporate Masters event to be held in the UAE – the inaugural Middle East Entrepreneurs Cup presented by Abu Dhabi Duty Free.
Ebdon appears as the guest of British property entrepreneur Danny Lubert of First Group, whose first UAE projects are both in Dubai Sports City – the presenting sponsors of the second event to be held at The Montgomerie a week later.
Both being highly competitive and with equal 17 handicaps they will be a tough act to beat in at the Troon-managed Abu Dhabi National Course this Wednesday.
Amongst the leading Emirati golfers playing the event is radio entrepreneur Mohamed Al Murad who plays off five partnered by the Nick Pomeroy, the Circulation Director of ITP who plays off two. Adel Zarouni (handicap 17) the Emirati Entrepreneur behind the Rivoli Group - a sponsor of the event – will also play with his partner James Norman (16). Hani Abdulnour (6), the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi National Catering Company, is playing with Emily Gordon whilst Abu Dhabi Golf Club Champion and leading entrepreneur, Alex Charwani, should also feature with his guest, William Low.
The Corporate Masters was established by Jamie Cunningham and the Professional Sports Group back in 2000 and now consists of 14 events across Europe plus a Grand Final. The event is designed to offer Chief Executives, Entrepreneurs and Senior Corporate Executives the chance to entertain a key client or potential client on the golf course whilst also providing ample opportunities to network with their peers.
The format is a betterball stableford in teams of two and the winning team from each event goes forward to the World Final, hosted by Jean Van de Velde, at the Algarve’s premier new golf development, Monte Rei this November.
The Middle East Entrepreneurs Cup presented by Abu Dhabi Duty Free will be followed by the Middle East Corporate Cup presented by Dubai Sports City, which is being held at The Montgomerie on May 23. The events are supported by Rivoli with additional category partners including African + Eastern, AME Info, DHL, ITP, Sporte Leisure, Titleist and Troon Golf.
Mohamed Mounib, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Duty Free, the presenting sponsors of the Middle East Entrepreneurs Cup, said: “It’s a great field of 50 teams, including some of the UAE’s leading entrepreneurs, and Wednesday is set to be a truly competitive event. I think that such is the quality of the golfers taking part any one of the teams can end up representing Abu Dhabi at the Corporate Masters World Final at Monte Rei in November.”
