ALBAWABA - As the US ramps up its backing for Israel amid the horrific aggression on Gaza, a US Army official has announced his resignation in protest of Washington's increasing support for Tel Aviv in recent months.
In a letter posted on LinkedIn, Defense Intelligence Agency officer, Harrison Mann, said that the US's "nearly unqualified support" for Israel "enabled and empowered the killing and starvation of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians".
Mann expressed shame and guilt as he believes that his work "unquestionably contributed to that support," Mann said: "This has caused me incredible shame and guilt".
"This unconditional support also encourages reckless escalation that risks wider war,” he added. Hala Rharrit, the US State Department's Middle East and North Africa spokesperson, resigned last month in protest of the Biden administration policy
According to her LinkedIn page, Rharrit has worked at the State Department in a variety of jobs since 2005, and she has been the Middle East and North Africa spokesman since August 2022.
She is the third State Department official to resign publicly since October 7, following Annelle Sheline, a foreign affairs officer in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, who announced her resignation last month, and Josh Paul, former director of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, who announced his resignation on October 19.
Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 35,091+ people, with more than 78,827+ injuries.
Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
