A Palestinian cabinet member has said that although the Palestinians have taken seriously Israeli threats to escalate the aggression on the Palestinians, it would be foolish if Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak goes on with his plans to engage in an outright war with the Palestinians.

“I do not expect Barak would be foolish to do more than he has done, because he has been a chief of staff and knows well that the Palestinian people’s reaction will be tough and violent, and the battle will be taken inside the Zionist entity,” said Minister of Telecommunications Imad Falouji.

In a telephone interview with Albawaba.com, Falouji said that Barak’s threats are not unprecedented, referring to pervious statements by Israeli chief of staff Shaul Mofaz warning of the use of maximum force against the Palestinians.

The minister added that the racist attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza as well as inside Israel are pre-meditated and come within a coordinated plan masterminded by the Israeli government.

“It is a programmed plan and an exchange of roles between the settlers and Barak’s government,” he charged, adding that the premier’s frequent meetings with the leaders of the settlers prove they were cooking something.

The Palestinian official said that the siege imposed on the Palestinians was aimed at undermining the morale in the Palestinian side, and despite the obvious negative effect of the Israeli procedures on the Palestinian economic life, spirits are high.

But this does not mean that the Palestinian people are to be left alone in the face of the Israeli crimes, according to Falouji.

“The Arab and Islamic worlds have to realize the nature of the Palestinian suffering, and be well aware of the plots against them,” he demanded.

The minister said that the Palestinian diplomacy has to integrate with Arab and Islamic efforts to “uncover the Israeli practices.” He said that Palestinian President Yasser Arafat knows well the influence of the Zionists propaganda on the western media, and he is working on explaining the Palestinian position to the world.
