The Palestinian official in charge of the office of refugee affairs, Asa'd Abdel Rahman, resigned from his post and said that he no longer feels responsible for the Camp David results on the issue of Palestinian refugees, reported Haaretz. He also expressed his surprise that he and Faisal Husseini, the PA's minister for Jerusalem Affairs, were not asked to participate in the summit at Camp David, said the paper.
Abdel Rahman did not resign his post at the PLO's Executive Council.
He warned against giving up on the right of return and compromising on international decisions on the refugee issue.
If this happens, he said from his seat in Amman, he will be the first to resign from the PLO.
Husseini said last week that he had been invited to participate at Camp David but did not do so because he did not believe the ground was ready for talks on Jerusalem.
Palestinian sources said, however, that the reason behind his refusal was that he was not invited to participate in the negotiating delegation but in the team in charge of public relations, the paper added.
During a recent visit to Damascus, where he participated in the memorial ceremony for the late Hafez Assad, Husseini said that he was opposed to any agreement, which leaves the Old City of Jerusalem and east Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the paper - Albawaba.com
