National Bank of Kuwait’s (NBK) 13th annual walkathon titled ‘Health with Every Step’, has seen participation of over 9,000 enthusiastic walkers. The walkathon event was held yesterday under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah.
Registration for the Walkathon began on March 3, 2007 at a tent specially set up by NBK near the Kuwait Scientific Center. The registrations concluded on March 21, 2007 at 8 pm.
The feature event of the Walkathon was kicked off at 10 am and concluded at 8:30 pm.
The annual Walkathon event, part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, has over the years’ garnered huge success and popularity. The 2006, Walkathon event had over 6000 walkers participate.
“The event has come a long way from when it was started 13 years ago,” said Vice Chairman Nasser Al Sayer who personally participated in the honoring of the winners in the final walkathon celebrations.
Each year, the event has added a new aspect to the Walkathon. “This year’s event is marked by being interactive and fun. It is NBK’s constant endeavor to hold regular events, that bring awareness in the country,” added Al Sayer
Participating for the first time in the event is the Kuwait Obesity Association (KOA), in addition to the renowned Kuwaiti comedian Dawood Hussein who presided over the final walkathon celebrations which will conclude at the Green Island.
NBK also awarded the top 10 winners in each category, with the grand prize being the Toyota XA 2007, the keys of which were handed to the lucky winner by Dawood Hussein. The March Jawhara Draw was also held during the final celebrations.
The Walkathon for the male participants started from the Kuwait Scientific Center located in Ras Salmiya at 2 pm. The walk for female participants began from the Marina Crescent at 3 pm.
