ALBAWABA- American forces have arrested over 2,000 people participating in pro-Palestinian protests at numerous universities and campuses across the United States. The arrests come as anti-Israeli atrocities and anti-war demonstrations have surged nationwide.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), witnessed chaotic scenes early Thursday as officers in riot gear confronted demonstrators. Police dismantled a fortified encampment after protesters defied orders to leave, with some forming human chains.

At least 200 people were arrested at UCLA, according to Sgt. Alejandro Rubio of the California Highway Patrol. The arrestees are being booked at the county jails complex near downtown Los Angeles, with UCLA police determining any charges to seek, as reported by AP.

Workers began an extensive cleanup of the former encampment site, with bulldozers removing trash and dismantling tents. Some buildings were left covered in graffiti.

The arrests followed hours of warnings over loudspeakers for people to disperse. A crowd of over 1,000 had gathered on campus, including inside a barricaded tent encampment. Protesters and police engaged in scuffles as officers encountered resistance.

Videos showed police pulling off protesters’ helmets and goggles as they were detained. Flashbangs were used to disorient and stun protesters, who chanted at the officers, "Where were you last night?"

This came after counterprotesters attacked the encampment on Tuesday, with the UCLA administration and campus police taking hours to respond.
