ALBAWABA - Fighting continues in besieged Goma city in the Democratic Republic of Congo between the army and M23 fighters, who are backed by Rwandan soldiers.
At least 100 people were killed in intensive attacks in Goma, an AFP tally of tolls from the eastern Congolese city's hospitals revealed on Tuesday.
Furthermore, about 1,000 people were injured in the fighting and they were transferred to hospitals in the capital of mineral-rich North Kivu province.
A medic told AFP that "many bodies are still in the city" and they "must be recovered as soon as possible" to avoid sanitary risks.

United Nations staff and their families will be leaving Goma city over the Rwandan border as buses are ready to transfer them, AFP reported Monday citing Rwanda's state media.
On Jan. 26, M23 forces backed by the Rwandan army started to advance into Goma city in the Central African country as clashes were heard with the DR Congo army who are attempting to repel their movement and push them back.
It is worth mentioning that the armed group M23 (the March 23 Movement) first emerged in late 2021 and started to control large swathes of North Kivu province in DR Congo.
