A police station Saturday was attacked in northwestern Baghdad with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire, witnesses said. Clashes broke out around dawn in the Azamiyah district, and three American armored vehicles were seen in flames, witnesses said, according to The AP.
Later, a US statement said one American soldier was killed and nine others injured. One Iraqi policeman was also killed.
Heavy fighting also broke out between gunmen and Iraqi National Guards and US soldiers in the western Amiriyah neighborhood, police reported.
Two roadside bombs also went off, killing three National Guardsmen who had been fighting in the area, said policeman Akram al-Azzawi.
In the nearby Khadra area, two American soldiers on patrol were wounded when a roadside bomb detonated near their convoy, said Ali Hussein of the Khadra police station.
In the western part of the capital, gunmen in a car chased down a vehicle carrying employees of the Ministry of Public Works on their way to work Saturday, opened fire and killed four of them, a ministry spokesman said, according to The AP.
U.S. forces and resistance fighters battled in the city of Ramadi. Nine Iraqis were killed and five injured in Saturday's fighting, hospital officials said.
Meanwhile, American forces found four decapitated bodies during military operations in Mosul, an American military spokesman said Saturday.
All four bodies, whose identities were not established, were found on Thursday, and have been turned over to Iraqi authorities, he disclosed. Three of the bodies were found by the roadside in a northeastern neighborhood of Mosul, while the fourth body was discovered in the southwestern part of the city. (albawaba.com)
