One person was killed and five others were injured due to an explosion of several mines remaining from the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war, in the border regions of the western province during the past few days, it was announced in Ilam on Wednesday.
The public relations department of the provincial police said that Ardeshir Moradi, a provincial tribesman who had been pasturing his cattle in the border region of Mousian in the city of Dehloran had been killed as a result of a mine explosion, according to IRNA.
An additional mine had exploded and wounded two members of the road-constructing department of the municipality of the border city of Mehran, it further said.
Three others had been injured during the explosion of mines and explosives in Mehran and Dehloran recently, the report added.
Dozens of residents from the border regions of this western province are killed or wounded each year in explosions of mines left over from the 1980-88 war. During the eight-year war, mines and other explosives were planted in over 750,000 hectares of Iran's provincial lands, a vast part of which has so far been cleared. (Albawaba.com)
