Egyptian actress Ilham Shahine’s latest movie affected her morale so negatively that she found herself in the hospital more than once during filming. The reasons? Depression, stress and exhaustion due to nerve wrecking scenes and the portrayal of a mentally unstable character.
In the movie, Al Akhtabut (The Octopus), Shahine plays a schizophrenic patient.
According to the Kuwaiti KUNA news agency, Shahine declared the effect the movie had on her at the film’s premier.
The Octopus is directed by Karim Dia’a Eddine, written by Atef Bshai and co-starrs Mahmmoud Yasin, Mahmmoud Qabeel and Nahed Rushdi.
It depicts the story of a woman who murders her husband and pleads not guilty in court.
However, what the murderess (Shahine) doesn’t know is that she has schizophrenia; a fact her doctor later reveals.
Meanwhile, the doctor also discovers that Shahine did not technically kill her husband, but she killed him mentally, because he had deserted her and so she wanted to forget him.
Shahine has already gotten rave reviews for a performance that critics are calling ‘unprecedented.’
