President Barack Obama has approved an influx of 1,500 more U.S. soldiers to aid the fight against ISIL in Iraq, the Associated Press reported Friday.
The report said that the U.S. troops will not be in combat roles, but will train and advise Kurdish and Iraqi forces engaged with the Islamic State militants.
After the president met with congressional leaders, the White House said that the administration would be asking for $5 billion to fund the effort, the report said.
