The latest number plate auction conducted by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) recently in Al Barsha, Bur Dubai generated over AED 2.8 million, which was almost double the original price amounting to AED 1,519,000. The auction of 97 numbers was supervised by Essa Bin Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, Director of Licensing Department, RTA, and was attended by several Directors from the RTA and hundreds of bidders.
There were a total of 10 groups of numbers at the auction. The 9th group which comprised 18 triple digit numbers from category E, originally valued at AED 630,000, was sold for AED 1,320,000, while plate number 154 was sold for AED133, 000.
The first group from category E consisted of eight five digit numbers. Originally valued at AED 24,000, the numbers were sold for AED 100,000. The numbers in this group included 88844, 99911, 99966, 77733, 66699, 33311, 22266 and 11166.
The second group belonging to category D included eight five digit numbers. These numbers, originally valued at AED 40,000, were sold for AED 102,000. The numbers in this group included 99969, 88868, 77797, 66676, 55565, 44414, 33363 and 11121.
The third group belonging to category D included eleven five digit numbers. These numbers were sold for AED 146,000 which was more than thrice the original value of AED 55,000. The numbers in this group included 96999, 34333, 73777, 79777, 83888, 89888, 91999, 31333, 23222, 19111 and 79777.
The fourth group from category D included seven four digit numbers. These numbers were sold for AED 141,000 originally being valued at AED 70,000. The numbers in this group included 9995, 8885, 7778, 6662, 5553, 3335 and 1112.
The fifth group from category D had four 5 digit numbers and was sold for AED 106,000, while the original value was AED 40,000. The sixth group, originally valued at AED 220,000, comprised eleven five digit numbers and was sold for AED 283,000. The numbers sold in this group were 76666, 59999, 88889, 77778, 77774, 66668, 66667, 22228, 11119, 11118 and 11117.
The seventh group belonging to category E included nine, four digit numbers. Originally priced at AED 180,000, these numbers were sold for AED 224,000. The numbers in this group included 9339, 8228, 7557, 6446, 5335, 4774, 3883, 2992 and 1661. The eighth group that comprised of ten, four digit numbers of category D was sold for AED 249,000, slightly higher than the original price of AED 240,000. The numbers in this category included 9898, 9696, 8787, 8282, 7878, 7676, 7171, 6767, 6161 and 5656.
The last group included a single triple digit number - 677 - which was sold at AED 130,000, more than double its original price of AED 60,000.
