More than 13 per cent of the 3.1 million people who booked seats with Gulf Air in the first six months of the year had failed to turn up, causing the company to incur heavy losses, reported the Bahrain Tribune newspaper.
The senior manager for reservations, Ali Al Bloushi, told the paper that the number of no-show passengers reached more than 400,000.
"But compared with last year's figures, the number has dropped by 56,000," he said.
He added that such passengers cause massive loss to the airline in terms of preparations and services for them on flights because they do not notify the reservation office about the cancellations, depriving others who are in urgent need to travel.
"The equivalent of 1,732 Airbus planes of 340 type flew with 231 vacant seats as the no-show passengers did not cancel their flights," said Al Bloushi - Albawaba.com
