Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the opening of an Abela supermarket at Etihad Plaza, its staff housing and facilities complex located opposite the airline’s Head Office in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi.
The Abela supermarket will offer an extensive range of fresh foods and grocery products, sourced locally and from overseas, to Etihad staff and residents of Khalifa City and surrounding districts.
Ray Gammell, Etihad Airways’ chief people and performance officer, said: “The opening of Abela supermarket is an excellent addition to the wide range of facilities provided for our growing workforce. Our staff and their families living at Etihad Plaza will now be able to enjoy the high-quality products offered by Abela.”
The opening of the supermarket was accompanied by a ‘children’s funfair with a variety of attractions, including face painting, balloon modelling and magic shows. A ‘Scratch and Win’ promotion allowed lucky winners to receive free airline tickets from Etihad Airways and valuable prizes from Abela, such as LCD televisions, mobile phones, MP3 players, gift vouchers and much more. All scratch and win vouchers will be valid from March 5 to March 6.
David Derrick, Abela supermarket’s retail general manager, said: “The supermarket management team and staff are extremely excited about this new supermarket and we look forward to greeting our customers over the forthcoming weeks and months.”
Etihad Plaza is home to more than 300 Etihad Airways staff and comprises a comprehensive set of retail outlets including First Gulf Bank, UAE Exchange, a pharmacy, Jeeves Laundry, Mugg & Bean coffee shop and Hippy Chic and Deli restaurants. A new Etihad Airways medical clinic is also set to be launched in 2010.
