ALBAWABA - A report by CNN, citing a White House official, revealed that President Joe Biden might be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later in July when the latter arrives in Washington, D.C., to speak in front of a joint session of Congress.
The White House official said that US and Israeli administrators are nailing down the final touches regarding the logistical details for the Biden-Netanyahu meeting, which would likely take place at the White House.
"They will likely see each other when the Prime Minister is here over the course of that week. But we have nothing to announce at this time," a White House official told CNN.
The Israeli aggression on Gaza is expected to be on the top of the meeting's agenda, as tensions between Biden and Netanyahu have risen in recent months, the US has grown increasingly frustrated with Israel's handling of the war, especially the absence of "civilian protections".
Netanyahu indicated last week that he remains "committed" to Biden's May plan for an Israeli ceasefire and captive release, which outlines criteria for the release of all remaining captives, a lasting truce, and the departure of Israeli soldiers from Gaza. The prime minister drew controversy after first stating that he would accept "a partial deal".
Last month, Biden stated in an interview that Netanyahu may be prolonging the conflict in order to maintain power and that it was "uncertain" if Israel had committed war crimes.
More recently, Netanyahu sparked outrage in Washington when he publicly claimed the Biden administration was "withholding weapons" in a video posted to X, claiming that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had "assured me that the administration is working day and night to remove these bottlenecks".
