ALBAWABA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed former naval chief Vice-Admiral (res.) Eli Sharvit as the new Israeli security chief (Shin Bet chief), local media reported on Monday.
"After conducting in-depth interviews with seven worthy candidates, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint former Israel navy commander, Vice-Admiral Eli Sharvit as the next director of the ISA (Shin Bet)," Netanyahu's office revealed in a statement.
However, according to a note from the Israeli High Court of Justice, Netanyahu's decision to appoint Eli Sharvit will not go into effect until April 8 and it could also delayed further.
What to know about Eli Sharvit?
According to the Jerusalem Post, Sharvit served 36 years in the Navy, during which he also worked as chief of staff from 2014-2016 and commander from 2016 until 2021.
From 2016 to 2021, Sharvit worked on improving the Israeli maritime defense capabilities for economic waters and led huge operational campaigns against Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, the Prime Minister's Office added.
