In an interview on Al Manara television, Secretary General of Hizbollah Hassan Nasrallah revealed that the Israeli Army knew beforehand that Hizbollah had plans to enter the Shabaa area and kidnap Israeli soldiers.
Nasrallah said that Sha’ul Mofaz, Israeli chief of staff, had taken all precautionary measures to thwart such an operation. Hizbollah members, however, managed to enter Shabaa, kidnap the Israelis, and leave unharmed.
The Islamist leader suggested that Mofaz resign, saying that the general did a terrible job protecting his men.
The soldiers were kidnapped for a “humanitarian” reason, according to the secretary, who added that they would be swapped for Lebanese and, possibly, Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
