Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Monday accepted the defeat of his opposition alliance in Lebanon's parliamentary election. "We accept the official results in a sporting spirit," he said. The Shiite leader also congratulated his political rivals. "I would like to congratulate all those who won, those in the majority and those in the opposition," he said.
"We accept the fact that the competition won a majority while the opposition retained its presence in parliament," Nasrallah said.
The head of the Shiite movement called on the new MPs to "preserve the faith" of their electors. "All of them must know that they have a responsibility towards the people and this nation," Nasrallah said.
“I tell the Lebanese that the chance of building a just, capable and strong state is still standing, regardless of the outcome of the elections. We all agree that there are big challenges ahead of us on the economic, social, political and administrative levels. We must have reached already the conviction that saving this country and developing it while preserving its independence and sovereignty necessitates the cooperation of all sides. This chance is not lost," he noted.
