Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak late Saturday warned that escalating Israeli aggressions against the Palestinians would bring about "unlimited" dangers in the future. Mubarak made this warning in an interview with Samir Ragab, chairman and editor-in-chief of the official Arabic-language Al Gumhuria daily. "The policy they (Israelis) are pursuing are short-sighted and will lead to no solution rather than catastrophes," he warned.

Meanwhile, a telephone conversation was held Saturday evening between Yassir Arafat, chairman of the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) Executive Committee and president of the Palestinian National Authority, and the Egyptian President. Nabil Abu-Rudaynah, adviser to President Arafat, stated the two leaders exchanged views on the current situation in the Palestinian territories and the mission of US envoy Anthony Zinni. According to WAFA, they also discussed the Egyptian efforts to resolve the current situation and support the Palestinian people.

According to Palestinian sources in Ramallah, where Arafat is holed up in his office still surrounded by Israeli tanks, he is expected to make a speech on Palestinian TV Sunday. Palestinian sources assess Arafat will call again for a cease-fire and try to explain to the Palestinian people why a cease-fire is necessary at this stage .
