Morocco presented Tuesday a new candidate, Abdelilah Belkziz, to the position of secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) in replacement of former prime minister Azeddine Laraki, reported ArabicNews.com.
Quoting a Moroccan official, the agency said the registering a new candidate for the post is not a violation of the OIC charter as Bengali speaker Humayun Rasheed Chowdhury charged Monday.
Chowdhury charged that Morocco violated the organization's charter by putting up a new candidate for retaining the post, the agency said.
He was quoted as saying that Laraki could run for a second term, but Morocco could not field a new candidate for another term.
"It's a violation of the charter," he said, adding that this issue should be solved immediately before holding the 28th session of the OIC regular meeting on July 27th in Malaysia - Albawaba.com
