The Moroccan Railway Bureau has decided to invest the sum of one billion dollars in the next five years to develop its railway network and utilize the electronic traffic signals. The project will ensure safe trips and allow the import of tens of new trains to replace part of the present fleet.
The London based Al Hayat newspaper said that Morocco intends to purchase 24 new trains from the international market to use on Casablanca- Fez lines by early 2004 after the completion of the railways development in 2003.
The Bureau issued a statement confirming that the trains’ tender has been released for all train manufacturing companies to supply Morocco with two models: the first includes eight modern trains and the second includes 16 trains the speed of which is not less than 160 kilometers per hour.
The railways Bureau has obtained 155 million dollars in financing from the African Bank for Development, European Investment Bank and Japan Cooperation Bank to complete the project infrastructure -- Albawaba.com
