India received strong support Tuesday for its implementation of a three-month ceasefire in Kashmir from Morocco's King Mohammed VI at the start of a six-day state visit, reported AFP.
In his first visit to an Asian country, the monarch held talks with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, said the agency.
"The king expressed deep appreciation on the prime minister's initiatives to bring peace in Kashmir," an Indian official said.
The two countries also signed a joint declaration to work together and with other countries towards a multi-polar world for the emergence of a new and just international order, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
The “Delhi Declaration” also called for cooperation on plant protection, veterinary sciences and cultural exchange program, said IRNA.
The King, who is accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohammed Benaissa and Finance Minister Fathallah Oualalou, also held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh and Defense Minister George Fernandes, said AFP.
Moroccan Prime Minister Abderahmane Youssoufi visited India in February last year, while Indian foreign minister Singh traveled to Rabat in September the same year.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1957, shortly after Morocco won its dependence – Albawaba.com
