More than 60 people were killed in two days of ethnic clashes which shook Nigeria's main commercial center, Lagos, witnesses told AFP Tuesday.

Victoria Adeleke, a nurse who worked on Monday in the Alaba district where fighting took place, told AFP she had counted 22 bodies on the street.

And another witness, Patrick Adum, said he had seen 20 bodies in the Okokmaiko district of the city.

"I counted more than 20 bodies at Okokomaiko," he told AFP.

A local reporter meanwhile said he had seen 21 bodies on the outskirts of Ajegunle, the main district were fighting took place.

Police earlier confirmed that at least 24 people had died in the fighting on Sunday and Monday between ethnic Yorubas and Hausas -- LAGOS (AFP)
