HRH Princess Basma on Tuesday attended the signing of an agreement between the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) and MobileCom, whereby the latter will provide financial assistance to programmes conducted by JOHUD's National Goodwill Campaign for the coming year.
The Princess voiced her appreciation of MobileCom's support, which, she said, would effectively contribute to sustaining the campaign that targets needy families across the Kingdom.
“Our cooperation with MobileCom, in the previous years, brought about eminent results in local communities, and today we meet again to build on this relationship and combine efforts to alleviate the suffering of those in real need of our services,” Princess Basma said.
The Princess called for further cooperation between all institutions to accelerate the development process and improve the quality of life for underprivileged citizens. She noted that the aid distributed among this section of the population is based on prior studies of the areas and the families listed for assistance by Goodwill Campaign officials.
JOHUD Deputy Executive Director Eman Nimri and MobileCom CEO Mickael Ghossein signed the agreement.
Ghossein, expressed the company's continued commitment to supporting JOHUD initiatives, “based on our belief in the importance of the development services that JOHUD extends to communities in need.”
Under the agreement, MobileCom will sponsor and fund the mobile clinic, which offers dental and gynaecological care, contribute to scholarships for poor students and support projects like goat and sheep farming, sewing and small groceries. In addition, the company will assist JOHUD in its schoolbag project, under which schoolchildren in the targeted areas are supplied with bags and stationery they need when school starts.
Through its partnership with the campaign, and over the last five years, MobileCom has been able to contribute substantially to assisting those living in poverty. The mobile service provider has helped improve the living standards of 130 families through income- generating projects, provided essential medical services in various parts of the Kingdom, financed undergraduate studies for 35 young men and women, and distributed over 4,450 schoolbags to children in need.
Princess Basma, chairperson of JOHUD, launched the first National Goodwill Campaign in 1991. The campaign, which is based on the Islamic values of solidarity and support, reaches its apex every year during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
