Signing of the new amended license agreement for Petra Jordanian Mobile Telecommunications Co, (MobileCom), convened today at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission’s (TRC) premises according to the new license format for individual license in the light of the transition to the integrated licensing and regulatory regime.
The amended agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmad Hiasat, the CEO and Chairman of the TRC Board of Commissioners, and Mrs. Majd Shweikeh, MobileCom CEO. The ceremony was attended by members of the Commissioners Board and a number of MobileCom and TRC officials.
Dr. Hiasat asserted that MobileCom’s move to the Integrated Licensing and Regulatory Regime has been voluntarily, upon its completion of all the necessary requirements for such a move. The new regulatory framework endeavors to eliminate old differences and obstacles related to the limiting definitions of the service and type of used technology.
“Signing this agreement comes after MobileCom, a member of Jordan Telecom Group, fulfilled all its commitments. It also comes to reflect the prominent role that MobileCom has undertaken in the past to provide the local market with the most advanced mobile services at high quality. Furthermore, the company annually allocates an amount of money to invest in updating and upgrading its network. MobileCom has been considered the fastest growing mobile operator in the Kingdom in 2006, whereby its market share has reached 32% of the total mobile market of that year,” Shweikeh said.
Over the last years, MobileCom contributed directly in supporting the national economy through creating many job opportunities. It also provided the country’s treasury with millions of Dinars during its working years, in the form of direct and indirect taxes and participating in the proceeds. MobileCom’s contribution is expected to increase within its plans to expand.
Shweikeh highlighted that MobileCom was able to increase its number of customers to 1.6 million in the Jordanian market which is considered the most competitive market in the region, this comes as a result of its latest technologies and various services and offers with competitive prices that suit different segments and needs.
“We thank TRC on all its industrious efforts to alleviate the level of the telecom sector in Jordan. We would like to assert that MobileCom shall continue on the course it has designed for itself in the past years.” She added.
It is worth mentioning that Jordan Telecom moved early last month to the new regulatory regime, and signed a new amended licensing agreement with TRC, in accordance with the new class license format.
