Iraqi Trade Minister Mohammad Mahdi Saleh said on Saturday that a free trade agreement will be signed soon between Amman and Baghdad, reported the Jordan Times newspaper.

Saleh’s remarks came during his visit to the 5th Jordanian industrial fair in Baghdad.

He gave no further details, said the daily.

Earlier this month, Jordan’s trade and industry ministry secretary general, Samer Tawil, said after concluding a five-day visit to Baghdad that a proposed free trade accord was still under negotiations.

In a related development, Tunisia and Iraq signed Thursday a free-trade accord during a visit to Tunis by Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassine Ramadan.

Ramadan clinched the deal with Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi.

Iraq has signed two similar agreements with Egypt and Syria last month – Albawaba.com
