AFP has reported that an Mi-17 Iraqi helicopter en route from Basra to the city of Kut crashed on Tuesday south of Baghdad.
Brigadier General Yahya Rasool told AFP that a “technical problem” caused the crash that killed nine people, including two officers.
The crash occurred in an area east of the city, according to a Kut police captain.
This is not the first incident as Iraq has lost many helicopters in recent years to accidents and ground fire.
