MBC television has started broadcasting news bulletins from Dubai in the framework of a phased move from its London headquarters to the Emirate, which intends to attract other Arab and international media heavyweights to a media free zone, according to Khaleej Times.
MBC, which is owned by Shaikh Walid Al Ibrahim of the Saudi Kingdom plans to finalize the transfer of its operations to its new state-of-the-art studios in Dubai Media City within a period of two months, sources at the satellite TV told AFP News Agency.
The Arabic channel, whose move was announced around a year ago, aired its first principal evening news bulletin from Dubai on Thursday.
MBC's choice of Dubai as its new base, which is aimed at cutting production costs, improving efficiency and being closer to its viewers, has boosted a multi-billion-dollar campaign by the Gulf' trading center to also become the region's tourism, leisure and e-commerce capital. (Albawaba.com)
