Ed Thomas, the longtime football coach at Aplington-Parkersburg High School in Iowa, was fatally shot in a weight room near the school Wednesday.
The Department of Criminal Investigation has identified Marc Becker, 24, a former football player for Thomas, as the shooter. Becker, named high school coach of the year in 2005 by the NFL, has a 37-year coaching record of 292-84, a remarkable feat for a school of only 250. The stadium where he coached was named after him.
A vigil is being held for Thomas Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in the schools’ football stadium.
