LG Electronics, one of the world’s leading innovators of LCD and Plasma televisions, announced that its 100-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) TV has made it into the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s largest.

The 2007 edition of the globally renowned book introduced the 100-inch LCD TV as the first product in the ‘Science and Technology Gadgets’ section. The LG 100-inch LCD TV is approximately 1.5 times larger than the largest currently available LCD TV (82-inch) and is similar in size to the largest plasma display TV currently available.

Under the title, “Largest LCD Screen,” Guinness World Records lists specifics of the 100-inch LCD TV, including its high-definition picture quality and zero-distortion video signals. Moreover, the 2007 edition specifies the TV’s width and height measuring over 2.2 metres and 1.2 metres respectively, and resolution of 6.22 million-pixels with full hi-definition grade picture quality and 1.07 billion colours. A large photograph of the TV is also featured on the upper half of the page.

LG Electronics unveiled the 100-inch LCD TV during the CES Show, Las Vegas, earlier this year. By creating the product, LG Electronics has emerged as the first to cross the 100-inch barrier. The product also features the latest technologies, such as a maximum 3000:1 contrast ratio, colour reproduction of 92 per cent, and an omni-directional, 180-degree viewing angle based on Super IPS and super-large compensation film technologies.

“Our innovation demonstrates LGE’s technological advances, not to mention South Korea’s in the flat TV industry worldwide,” said K. W. Kim, President, LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa operations. “While we have set the benchmark in this category, we have not compromised on quality, design or sophistication. The 100-inch LCD TV guarantees viewers a high-performance audio-visual experience by employing innovative technologies.”

The Guinness Book of World Records has been published annually since 1955 and is currently published in over 25 languages in 100 countries. Total sales to date have topped 100 million copies. The book lists world records in a wide variety of subjects ranging from science and technology to the natural world in addition to sports and games. Past records can be accessed through their online English website www.guinnessworldrecords.com
