Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Saturday voiced his appreciation for the UAE's support for clearing landmines from south Lebanon, according to the official Emirati news agency, WAM.
The Lebanese president was speaking at a meeting with UAE Ambassador Mohammed Hamad Imran in Beirut.
About 130,000 landmines are estimated to have been planted in the area, by the minimum estimates, all installed during the conflict with Israel, which occupied a zone in the south for 22 years before being forced to leave by the Lebanese resistance backed by Iran and Syria – Albawab.com
