A Lebanese civilian was lightly wounded Saturday by a bullet fired by an Israeli soldier on the Lebanese-Israeli border, a source at a hospital in Marjayoun said.
The young man was hit in the chin by a bullet fragment at the Fatima Gate and treated at the nearby hospital.
The soldier, who was at his guard post, fired two shots, one into the air and the other at the man's feet. The second bullet ricocheted and a fragment struck the man in the chin, Lebanese witnesses in the area said.
The Gate has become a popular spot for Lebanese since the Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon May 24th.
Lebanese witnesses said that the shooting was unprovoked.
Since the Israeli withdrawal, 18 Lebanese civilians have been wounded by Israeli fire. The shootings were generally provoked by stone throwing from the Lebanese side.
Neither Lebanese forces, nor UN peacekeepers, have taken up positions in the area of the Gate -- MARJAYOUN, Lebanon (AFP)
