Three men – a wanted Palestinian and two Syrians – were arrested over suspected links to "terror groups" in separate raids near Beirut and north Lebanon, the Lebanese army said.

A military statement said soldiers in the northern district of Akkar arrested Syrian national Ghazi Ahmad Othman Saturday morning for alleged links to an unnamed group.

It added that another Syrian who was in Othman’s company was also arrested. He was identified as Mohammad Khodr Othman.

A separate statement issued earlier Saturday said the army overnight arrested Palestinian Ahmad Hasan Merhi, who is wanted for "terrorist activities."

The arrest in the Beirut suburb of Sabra came following exchanges of gunfire between local Palestinians over old disputes. Several houses were set ablaze during Friday night’s shootout.

The army swiftly intervened and calm soon returned to the neighborhood, the statement said, adding that other suspects in the shooting were being persued.
