Dubai. Porsche Middle East & Africa and Porsche Centre Dubai joined efforts with the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF), Dubai Police and the Road & Transport Authority in carrying out a road safety campaign targeting school children in Dubai. They approached a total of 15 schools to take part in the program, which started in 15 May and will last till the 15th of June 2006. At the end of the activity, two thousand children would have participated in this entertaining and educational one-month long program. Porsche Centre Dubai has also provided the Emirates Motor Sports Federation with a Cayenne S, branded in the name of the project, for the period of the campaign.

The impetus for this ambitious program came after the great success “Porsche Children's Driving School” witnessed in Bahrain, during the Formula One event held earlier in the year. For three exciting days, more than 400 children drove Porsche 911 pedal cars around a mini road-track setup, including operating traffic lights, road signs and pedestrian crossings, after being briefed about the basic traffic rules and signs.

Likewise in Dubai, a small road-track is set up in each school complete with road signs, zebra crossings and traffic signals. After a short briefing by a qualified instructor on traffic signs and rules, children drive on the track while adhering to basic road safety rules. At their disposal are Porsche cars like no other: they are 911 pedal cars.

Every participating child receives an easy-to-understand booklet on road safety rules, and on completion of the session also receives a 'Porsche Driving License' stating “My First License – I Know My Road Rules”. The plastic license card carries all details of the child such as name, age and photograph, and although it does not permit the children to drive, it does indicate that the card holder has participated in a road safety program. The license is presented to the children by a Dubai Police officer who is present at all sessions.

At the end of the session, each child receives an “Info Pack”, including a “Porsche Safety Driving Book” for their parents, to create more awareness about traffic rules and explain what we can do to make the roads safer for us and our children.
